Toronto Raptors Look Strong at Midway Point of Season

The NBA season is about half way done and being from Canada I have been following the Toronto Raptors through the season. After a horrible start to the season where the Raps wouldn't have been able to keep a beach ball out of their basket the team has started to commit to defense with a much more aggressive and tenacious style that has really turned their season around. After a 7-13 start, the Raptors are 16-9 in their most recent 25 games to find themselves a game above .500 after 45 games and with a four game cushion on the 9th place Milwaukee Bucks.
January has been a solid month for the Raptors going 7-5, but playing many of the leagues best during this span. The Raptors defeated the San Antonio Spurs, the Orlando Magic, the Dallas Mavericks and the league leading LA Lakers in this span. This shows that Toronto has what it takes to compete with the leagues best and these victories give the teams' fans a glimmer of hope for a post season run.
The Raps have really developed into a team that loves to play at the ACC. Toronto's home game record so far this season is an impressive 15-6, while their road record of 8-16 leaves something to be desired. As you can see from the record the Raps have played 3 more away games this season than home games, so this is promising for Toronto to continue their playoff run.
Chris Bosh has been a tower of power for the Raptors this season and is currently a contender for league MVP, especially if the Raptors are able to qualify for the playoffs this season. Bosh is currently 8th in the league in points with an average of 23.9 per game. Bosh is also 7th in the league in rebounds per game, averaging 11.1. Being in the top 10 in the league in both of these stats is quite the feat. Bosh has been dominant this year and I would not be surprised if he claims the league MVP award at the end of the season. He should at least be nominated.
Bargnani has also really blossomed into a force this season. He is second on the Raptors in PPG with a 17.3 average. He can also pull down some boards. He averages 6.5 rebounds per game this season which definitely helps Bosh out around the basket.
The Raptors have really turned their season around and here is hoping they can continue their winning ways and earn an Eastern Conference playoff spot.
I personally enjoy placing the odd bet on the Raptors now and again. Every night they are playing I check the NBA lines online and see if they have good odds for the nights game. Sometimes I disagree with the NBA basketball odds for certain Raptors games. If I feel the Raptors are being underestimated I will place a wager. Sometimes I choose to bet the moneyline, while others I will check the NBA spread for the game and decide if I think the Raps can keep it close or cover the spread if they are playing the New Jersey Nets!
